We've set ourselves a target to be net zero by 2025. This doesn’t just help us as a business, or as a family-owned group of companies, but helps our automotive customers reach their own decarbonisation goals, too.
A shift to circular manufacturing
and Life Cycle Analysis.
We have everything on our doorstep. The mild Scottish climate, the finest rawhides, even water from our own loch. As part of Scottish Leather Group, we’re known for our industry-leading circular manufacturing process, because we want nothing to go to waste. In developing our own renewably driven self-heating system, we have already reduced the amount of waste sent to landfill by 77% in 2022. This reduction in landfill is a major landmark in our journey to zero process waste by 2025. The further expansion of our thermal energy plant will help bring our goal of zero process waste closer to reality.
Reducing Carbon Intensity
Converting waste into energy, as well as using solely renewable wind-derived electricity, has dramatically reduced the carbon intensity measured as carbon dioxide equivalent of our leather. Since 2003, we have significantly reduced the carbon intensity of our leather per hide from 10.9kg CO 2e/m 2 to 1.4kg CO 2e/m 2 in 2022.
But our journey to 2025 is just the beginning. Keeping an eye on bigger picture targets is what we do best. In the UK, the government wants all cars to be electric by 2050 - and we want those interiors to feature the most sustainably produced, fine automotive leather.
