Winner of inaugural Peter Horbury Fellowship Award announced

At a gathering of the biggest names in the world of automotive design last night, a new star was born. Luke Woloszczuk Veevers, a Royal College of Art transportation design student, was revealed as the first-ever winner of the Peter Horbury Fellowship Award, at the 2023 Car Design News People Awards.

Created by Bridge of Weir Leather and its partners, Car Design News and the RCA, the Peter Horbury Fellowship Award honours the late great automotive designer’s contribution and continues his legacy by inspiring and supporting the next generation of designers.

After careful consideration by a distinguished panel of judges, the prestigious accolade was awarded to Luke Woloszczuk Veevers at the star-studded event, which was held at the Londoner, in London’s Leicester Square, on December 7th.

James Muirhead, Sales Director at Bridge of Weir Leather, said: “It is with great pride that we support the Peter Horbury Fellowship Award, which recognises Peter’s profound contributions to the automotive industry, an accolade which will inspire the future of designers. We’re thrilled for Luke who has won the inaugural award. We hope this recognition provides significant support to them on their automotive design journey.”

Alongside the award, the winner also receives a £5000 bursary donated by Bridge of Weir Leather to support their studies. It is open to first and second-year full-time bachelor degree transportation design course students at the Royal College of Art, where Peter himself was a student. The winner was selected by course head, Dale Harrow, and the Royal College of Art faculty.

The Car Design News People Awards celebrates and shines a spotlight on the industry's brightest talents across 15 different categories. As a leader in sustainability and the sponsor of the Most Sustainable Design Award, Bridge of Weir Leather was thrilled to see Oli Design Team, Citroën win the award for being recognised as the design team that goes above and beyond in materials, engineering, and reducing the carbon footprint, all while offering real-world solutions to the challenges within the automotive landscape.
